fridays, roof tops, and why are the blue angels so late?!

Last Friday, the Chicago Air and Water show kicked off. Luckily, at work we had access to the building's rooftop. So at around 3pm, we decided to take a little break from our busy schedules and catch the Blue Angels' portion of the show. Love those freaking Blue Angels!

Unfortunately, the Blue Angels were a tad bit late. But as we waited we were able to see 15 people jump out of a plane with red smoke shooting from their shoes.

I snapped a lot of cool photos that afternoon. As you can see, in this one Chris is explaining something important via the use of jazz hands.

Either that or he was trying to high-five one of the Blue Angel pilots. (I mean, they were close...but not that close.)

I was just trying not to fall off the building.

new digs

The games division at work moved upstairs, which resulted in a mass migration downstairs where I'm stationed with the other writer/directors. So here's my new desk.

And yes...that is, in fact, a gigantic Twinkie.

mini golf

A few weekends ago, Jeff and I took Max to Skokie for some mini-golf. The theme of their 18-hole putt-putt course has something to do with interesting places around the world. The 17th hole just happened to be Africa.

Unfortunately, in this particular hole, you had to hit the ball into a hippo's mouth, but right in the way was a gigantic plaster elephant.

Luckily, my son Max (above), has no problem doing what it takes to make par for the course. I'm just glad that it wasn't a real elephant...after a heavy lunch.

Also:

What the hell city is this?

In other words, when did the Statue of Liberty move to Chicago?

Oh, Skokie...*shakes head*

girls' night out

It was my friend Sarah's 27th birthday, so to celebrate the girls all went out to the Office for some drinks. darts, and shit-shooting. It was the first Indiana girls' night I've been involved with (aside from Pioneer Tap Wednesdays) for a long, looooong time.

But it was fun. And after a few hours, the inevitable face roulette and rollercoaster pics were taken. Here are mine:

Face Roulette

"Act Like You're on a Rollercoaster!"

Yeah..it was a pretty fun night. And it took my mind off of a lot of life-adjustment related crap.

the 4th is coming! holy cow.

My mom recently reminded me that the 4th of July is only a few weeks away. This kind of shocked me. I mean, it doesn't seem like it's been a year since we were eating hot dogs, blowing crap up, and trying to haggle the folks at the fireworks stand for a discount. I mean, they say, "Buy 1 get 4,534 free!" But really, the cost of 1 is equal to the cost of 4,535. What a scam. Nevertheless, the opportunity to blow things up makes it difficult to say no. And, in turn, we end up buying the explosives anyways.

The above picture is from last 4th of July. My friend Angela and I decided to light as many of those charcoal snake things on fire as possible at one time . I think our number of snakes totaled 50. Maybe more. And there's still a stain on the sidewalk almost a full year later.

I have always liked the 4th of July. You might even say it's my favorite holiday. I like walking around my town, seeing everybody out enjoying the day, drinking large quantities of beer, and eating grilled goodness. And then, as soon as the sun sets, the skies light up with colorful sparks and explosions--the smell of gun powder wafting throughout every street.

I'm really excited for 4th of July...just like I am every year I guess. It's just I never realize how close it is until someone reminds me. It's weird. It's like I forget about time because it's going by so fast. I mean, has it really been a year since we created that stain on my sidewalk?

It totally has. And before I know it, Pierogifest will be in full effect, too. Crazy. What's crazier? To think of everything that's happened between last 4th of July and now. Sometimes I forget how fast time passes. It really is like the blink of an eye.

Or the pop, fizzle, fade of a firework.

5 interviews

As a motivator during my job hunt, Jeff told me that if I scored 5 interviews, he'd get me an LED hula hoop.

Turns out, JV was my fifth interview. So, not only did I get my dream job...but I also got this fancy light up hula hoop.

I look like a UFO...which has also been sort of a dream of mine, come to think of it.

shotskis!

A few weeks ago, Jeff and I went to support our friends from Blewt at a fundraiser for their trip to Comedy Central in LA.

A good time was had by all...

...well, unless you count the after effects of Jack Daniels consumed out of a 4-foot ski...

There was also talk of a hula hooping performance...but much booze was consumed, and karaoke sung...two songs were even sung by a vagina puppet...no, I'm not kidding.

So who knows. I will let you know if and when the hoop and I take to the Blewt stage.

take one for the team

So today was my first JV softball game.

It was super fun, although I was full of super suck. Which is fine. I gave it my all.

Actually, as I tried to field a grounder to the outfield (I was right center), I ended up sliding, rolling over my left shoulder and pulling God knows what.

I'm a bit sore, however, I'm fine. All I know is that one of my teammates informed me that my attempt at a save looked really cool.

Which was all part of the initial plan.

And even though I won in that respect...the Yahooligans spanked us...something like 439743897 to 6.

We'll get 'em next time...

Because You Might Not Care about My Job Hunt

That's right. I realize that perhaps some of you are reading my blogs, thinking, "I don't give a flying frack about this chick's job hunt."

Okay, fair enough.

I just spent the last 25 minutes wrestling with the paper shredder at work. I say wrestling because every time I fed it something, it gave me sass. "Paper bin is full." "Feeder is jammed." "That document tasted like a fart." (Okay, I made that last one up...but trust me, I saw what was written on that document. And if it had a taste, fart would be it.)

As I stuffed paper after paper into the machine, my mind began to wander. And then I noticed the universal warning symbols.

Okay, first of all, if you need a symbol to show you that it's dangerous to stick your hand into a row of fast moving, razor sharp blades, you have no business being anywhere near a paper shredder...hell, I wouldn't even let you use my cheese grater.

Second of all, I want to meet the first guy who actually got his necktie caught in the damn thing, requiring a new logo depicting a necktie, sharp blades, and the universal symbol for "no" to be placed on paper shredders across the world.

In all honesty, I hope the dude's okay. But really...what the hell was he doing?

In my boredom, I decided to take on the task of making up some more paper shredder warning symbols...you know, just in case.

No Fry Guy near paper shredder.
But feel free to shove Ronald in there...please.

No Stevie Nicks near paper shredder. She wears curtains. That's all I gotta say.

Do not Put Cheese into paper shredder. Some dipwad might think this is okay. Okay, so I might be that dipwad. Better safe than sorry I guess.

No Gene Simmons near paper shredder. Frizzy rocker mullet, freakishly long tongue, and mad chest hair. Yep, that's a recipe for paper shredder disaster.

No llamas near paper shredder. There's no reason for this one other than the fact the I like llamas. And every office appliance could benefit from a decal of a cartoon llama. Period.

Okay, okay, so they're not the greatest logos, but they gave me an excuse to draw at work. And to be creative at work.

Otherwise it's back to shoving documents into various office appliances. Wee.

Till next time,
-Tiff
